An all glass house offers spectacular views

glass-house-4-thumb-550x350People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. One should also note that people who live in glass houses should give up any and all hopes of privacy and be ready to shell out over $600,000 to get a 3-bedroom house designed by Italian maestro, Carlo Santambrogio. Alexander Frangoul from Germany had designed a similar house but only the walls were made of glass. However, almost every aspect of this house is made of glass, from the dining table, to the stairs. The home, which is available from the architect’s London Portland Street showroom, was designed after a client requested it and is entirely made of glass, even the staircase.

Showcasing Santambrogio’s latest glass furniture range, Simplicity, the glass house design stands with 7mm walls, which can specially heated to shield occupants from the elements. So if you have the funds, a glass designer and an architect, Santambrogio is willing to design the dream glass house that you always wanted. Our suggestion – try to find a secluded spot while building this home.

omega-anti-magnetic-watch-movement-8Omega has managed to create something that has eluded watchmakers for years, a watch that is resistant to magnetic fields greater that 1.5 tesla. The movement was unveiled at a press conference at Cité du Temps in Geneva on January 17th by Raynald Aeschlimann, Omega Vice President and member of Swatch Group’s Extended Group Management Board. The press conference began with the introduction of all the heroes that worked on the project, Jean-Claude Monachon, Omega Vice President and Head of Product Development, Michel Willemin, CEO of ASULAB, Thierry Conus, the Director of Research & Development at ETA and Mathieu Oulevey, a Tribology and Materials engineer at ETA. Aeschlimann talked of Swatch Groups unique ability to work in conjunction with all of its brands to create this incredible product. The prototype of this movement has been fitted on an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra and unlike earlier efforts to fight magnetism it doesn’t rely on a protective container but instead the use of non – ferrous material within the movement itself.

Jean Claude Monachon also regaled attendees with Omega’s long history of Innovation dating all the way back to 1984. Michel Willemin gave the audience a brief primer on magnets and magnetism and how, the strength of permanent magnets has only increased with time. A live demonstration was then made showcasing the incredible Omega prototype as it resisted up to 15,000 gauss of magnetic exposure. Patents are pending for this innovative prototype that will officially be presented at Baselworld in April 2013.

ideal-house-oma-and-prada-6-600x428To present Prada’s autumn winter collection 2013 in the Milan’s Men’s Fashion week, OMA’s research studio, AMO conceived the set of an “ideal house” with angular furniture, a part of the upcoming collection of OMA to be launched this year along with the American Furniture brand Knoll. The set is constructed around the ambit of the audience, settled on an irregularly shaped central island. The models act as characters showcasing cultured domestic scenes. What makes the set even livelier is the projection of multiple window frames on the wall, displaying various outdoor urban images and interior images acting as a backdrop to the set.

The stage and island are made of wood and a neutral light grey color has been used for both-the stage and the wall. The abstract furniture is an amalgamation of wood, metal and Plexiglas with a variety of paper textures whereas the objects are materialized with blue foam and painted wood. OMA and AMO have been designing the sets and stores for Prada for over ten years now and this time the set showcases the upcoming series of furniture collection designed by OMA to be launched later this year.

sky-city-3-thumb-550x363

sky-city-2-thumb-550x385Sky-high buildings are rising tall to compete for the crown of world’s tallest building. We’ve seen Burj Khalifa stand out as the tallest building in the world as of yet. But it will soon be toppled off from this tall honor as many competing structures are in the making to shine as the tallest building soon. The latest entrant is the Sky City which is all set to rise high in China as the world’s tallest skyscraper. Another record this structure intends to set is the time frame in which it plans to be built. Earlier it was estimated to be build in 90 days only. However that has been pushed further to 210 days which if achieved will be a record too. As the current tallest tower, Burj Khalifa took about five years to complete which is almost 9 times more. Sky City will not only rise 10 meters higher than the Burj Khalifa but will also be the least expensive tallest building as it is estimated to cost $628 million which is less than half of Burj Khalifa’s $1.5 billion price tag.
