T-Mobile’s big day: iPhone 5, LTE and a new type of service plan (roundup)

can it match bb z10 ?

Gigaom

We’re not sure if T-Mobile is now an “uncarrier,” as it declared at Tuesday’s event in New York City at which it finally introduced an iPhone 5(s aapl) for its network, unveiled new pricing plans that could change the way people think about buying smartphones, and shed a little more light on how its LTE networks will operate. However, the carrier certainly came out swinging as it tries to embrace its underdog status and set itself apart from larger rivals.

Here are the stories that emerged from the event:

Facebook’s ad tune-up: data will lead to dollars (if users stick around)

sounds interesting though,.but how ?

Gigaom

Facebook’s (s fb) approach to advertising can feel incoherent, especially when it flings random marketing messages all over a user’s page. In recent months, however, the social network has introduced tools that make its ad operation more sophisticated — and are likely to net it much more money.

News of the latest tune-up came on Tuesday as Facebook(s fb) announced it will let marketers buy “sponsored stories” in a user’s News Feed on the basis of websites that the user has previously visited. Until now, Facebook only let brands buy stories based on a user’s profile — which is created from information the user told Facebook (age, location, “Likes” and so on).

The opportunity to use so-called “retargeting” is likely to be a hit with advertisers who regard ads based on a person’s browsing history to be especially effective and who consider Facebook’s news feed to be prime real estate. One industry executive

New Flipboard Lets You Edit Your Own Magazines

great app.

Tech

Flipboard, one of the iPad‘s defining applications, is built atop a simple premise: the stuff your friends and other citizens of the web create and collect is interesting and deserves to be presented in a beautiful, browsable form, with big photos and slick typography. That’s why the app, which is also available for the iPhone and Android, calls itself a “social magazine.”

But what if the beautiful, browsable content consisted of items which you picked by hand to share with the world?

That’s the biggest new idea in Flipboard 2.0, which the company is releasing tonight. Probably the most significant Flipboard update so far, it lets you create personalized sections — magazines-within-the-social-magazine — on any topic, populated with interesting items you can add on the fly as you come across them within Flipboard or in your browser. Unless you mark a magazine as private, it’ll show up in…

what are the african leaders doing ???

This Just In

Days after a coup plunged the Central African Republic into chaos, looters roamed the streets of the capital, robbing hospitals and preventing fearful residents from seeking treatment.

A coalition of rebels ousted President Francois Bozize this week, the latest in a series of coups since the nation gained independence from France in 1960.

After the deposed president fled the nation, a rebel leader declared himself in charge and urged residents to welcome the new leadership.

3 Health Benefits Of Garlic For Men.

3 Health Benefits of Garlic for MenGarlic plays a critical role in many different aspects of human health. It is incredibly healthy for both men and women, but there are some health benefits of garlic that apply specifically to men. Here are 3 health benefits of garlic for men:

Prostate Cancer Prevention
Studies show that regular consumption of garlic may lead to a reduced risk of prostate cancer. According to several studies, garlic may prevent and slow the growth of prostate cancer cells.

One study done in China found that men who consumed higher levels of garlic (and scallions) was linked to about a 50 percent lower risk of prostate cancer. Raw garlic is considered to be the best way to consume garlic for anti-cancer benefits.

Heart Health
Garlic compounds are turned into hydrogen sulfide, a chemical that relaxes blood vessels and increases blood flow and circulation. Research shows that hydrogen sulfide plays a key role in the prevention of heart disease and heart attack. One study done at UCLA found that people taking garlic extract had the progression of plaque buildup in their arteries slowed by 50 percent compared to people not taking garlic.

Treat Impotence & Increase Sex Drive
Garlic may increase testosterone levels and improve blood circulation, and stimulates the body’s production of nitric oxide synthase enzyme, all of which can improve sex drive and help with impotence.

9 Health Benefits of Limes.

9 Health Benefits of LimesLimes are a citrus fruit. While the sour lime is the most common in the United States, there are also varieties of sweet limes. Lime juice is used in all types of food preparation (our favorite is in guacamole!) as well as in cocktails, skin creams, disinfectants, candies, oils, toothpastes and more. Limes were essential to maintaining the health of the British navy during the 19th century because their vitamin C content prevented scurvy. This is why British sailors are called Limeys. Here are 9 health benefits of limes:

Cancer Prevention
Limes contain limonoid, a compound believed to have anti-carcinogen effects. These compounds are thought to help prevent skin, mouth, stomach, breast, lung and other types of cancer. An article published in the “Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry” noted that limonin has been proven to induce cancer cell death. Limes are also a potent source of antioxidants, particularly vitamin C. Antioxidants reduce the risk of cancer by preventing free radical damage to the cells and DNA. Limes may have anti-inflammatory properties that can slow the risk of chronic inflammation, another high risk factor for developing cancer.

High In Antioxidants
Limes are a great source of vitamin C and other phytonutrients and flavonoids with antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are key in neutralizing free radical activity that damages the cells and DNA and can increase the risk of cancer, heart disease and premature aging.

High In Vitamin C

Just a quarter cup of lime juice contains over 46% the DV of vitamin C. Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins and antioxidants in human health. It helps boost the immune system, supports heart health, wards off sickness and disease and protects the eyes from conditions like cataracts.

Antibiotic
One of the flavonoid compounds found in limes are believed to have powerful antibiotic properties. Studies in west Africa found that the daily addition of limes into the diet of villagers helped reduce the occurrence of cholera.

Immunity Booster
The vitamin C in limes helps to boost immunity and offer long term support for the immune system. It may help to prevent the flu and the common cold as well as reduce the risk of chronic diseases like cancer.

Anti-Inflammatory
Vitamin C and many of the other phytonutrient compounds in limes have anti-inflammatory effects. Limes may be useful in lowering the risk of conditions related to chronic inflammation like arthritis, asthma, and heart disease.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Prevention
A study of more than 20,000 people published in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases found that subjects who consumed more vitamin C rich foods like limes were far less likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis and related arthritic conditions. Subjects who ate the least amount of foods with vitamin C were three times more likely to develop arthritis.

Heart Health
Antioxidants like vitamin C are often associated with a reduced risk of heart attack and heart disease. Foods that have potent anti-inflammatory properties are also believed to help support the cardiovascular system.

Eye Health
Vitamin C is essential to the proper function of the eyes. Vitamin C deficiency can lead to cataracts and other eye conditions. Maintaining good vitamin C levels by eating citrus like limes and lime juice is a good way to maintain proper eye health.

Napoleon and Josephine’s Engagement Ring Sold At Auction for $949,000

awesome

NewsFeed

The ring that a young Napoleon gave to Josephine for their engagement in 1776 has been sold at auction for $949,000 (€730,000), not including commission and other fees. The winning bid was almost 50 times the $20,000 estimate that the auction house expected it to bring in. The auction was held on Sunday in honor of the 250th anniversary of Josephine’s birth.

“In my wildest dreams, I did not think we would outsell the estimate by more than 47 times,” said Osenat’s Emily Villane, who led the auction, told ABC News. “We based the estimates in our catalog on the actual market value of the ring, minus Napoleon and Josephine provenance. It is not our job to tell bidders how much they should pay for the historical premium.”

Logitech Builds Its Ultrathin iPad Keyboard Into a Case

wow this is just awesome having such makes using ipad easier.

Tech

I couldn’t live without an iPad Bluetooth keyboard — but there’s no one wireless iPad Bluetooth keyboard I can’t live without. Actually, I like to try as many of them as possible. And it looks like the next one I’ll be test driving is a new model from Logitech, the Keyboard Folio.

The Folio uses a keyboard similar to the one in Logitech’s Ultrathin Keyboard Cover, but builds it into a case which protects both sides of the tablet. (It’s a different design than Logitech’s existing Solar Folio— a keyboard powered by the sun — and also presumably avoids one problem I’ve had with the Ultrathin, which is the tendency of its magnets to refuse to snap snugly enough to the iPad to keep the keyboard from plopping off.) Unfolded, it lets you prop up the iPad at two different viewing angles.

‘Africa’s tallest building’ set for $10 billion tech city – Hope City.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Right now, it’s nothing more than an empty plot of land, covered by just a few shrubs and the odd Neem tree. But within a few years, these grass plains just outside Accra, Ghana, could be transformed into a fertile breeding ground for world-class innovation.

The ambitious project is the brainchild of Ghanaian businessman Roland Agambire, head of local technology group RLG Communications. Smart and futuristic, the hub’s sustainable facilities will include an assembly plant for various tech products, business offices, an IT university and a hospital, as well as housing and recreation spaces, including restaurants, theaters and sports centers.

Construction is expected to begin by June 2013 and when completed — within three years, if everything goes as planned — the technology park could house 25,000 residents and create jobs for 50,000 people.

Agambire, one of Ghana’s top businessmen, says his company is financing 30% of the project, while the remainder will be funded by a wide array of investors and through a stock-buying scheme.

‘Africa’s highest tower’

Hope Cityywill be developed in an area of about 1.5 million square meters, located some 30 minutes west of Accra’s city center.

Designed by Italian firm Architect OBR, the technopolis will be made up of six towers of different dimensions, including a 75-story, 270 meter-high building that is expected to be the highest in Africa. A system of bridges at different heights will link the towers together, creating a circular connection between the buildings’ functions and public amenities.

OBR co-founder Paolo Brescia says the project’s goal is to create a living place of discovery and exploration that reflects the tradition and culture of local people in a contemporary urban setting.

‘ICT revolution’

The launch of Hope City comes just a few months after Kenya broke ground on its own flagship tech mega project; located some 60 kilometers southeast of the capital Nairobi, Konza Techno City is being touted as “Africa’s Silicon Savannah,” a major IT hub that aims to create some 100,000 jobs by 2030. “This city hopefully will bring the tech companies together and spark a new ICT revolution in Ghana,” she says, adding that the project could equip local techies with the necessary skills to develop apps that would solve community problems, as well as provide a platform for tech companies to find new talent and opportunities to invest in.

For Agambire, this is a project that will position Ghana at the forefront of African technology.

“Africa is hungry for development,” he says. “Want to make sure that in three years down the line, Hope City will be a reality and will be one of the biggest dreams that Africa has ever seen.”

Ideas for a Spic & Span Home

dyson-2-600x440A home is your haven, where you weave memories, unwind after a stressed day, have friends over and play the perfect host. I am obsessed with my haven, while designing it I envisaged the life I want to live and then built a home where my dreams can come true. Every corner, every detail has a little me and my family in it. The all and all white living room, the French windows, the terrace, the barbeque pit, the small study it all exhumes warmth, comfort and life. And being stationed at the top floor has its advantages, the wind that gushes in, the ray of sunlight that lights up the house, but maintaining this beauty and keeping it dust free, spic and span is sure a herculean task. The French windows in a city like Mumbai not only are the gateways to fresh air, but dry dust too, which settles and makes itself cozy on my couch. Thus the challenge is to be a dust buster. So I decided to build myself a cleanliness system that ensures a spic and span home!

I have created a weekly cleaning plan where I choose one room a day and clean it thoroughly, so here’s the routine:
– Dust the furniture, use cleaning agents for tough stains
– Vacuum the floor, ceiling, corners, bed, pillows, couch, any other sitting arrangement
– Use soap and water to clean the flooring
– Place disinfectant pills in corners, in wardrobes
– A spray of a light room freshener as the last touch.

The toughest of all is vacuuming out the deep seated and layers of dust, a good vacuum cleaner willl do just fine. Each day, I keep digging for and looking at ways to upgrade my life, in the areas like technology, gadgets, home décor and design. My way of life is to adapt to technological changes and edgier options that not only improve the quality of living but also make my life easier.

The brush bars of most vacuum cleaners only have nylon bristles. These work well on carpets but are not as effective on hard floors where fine dust can be left behind. Whereas Dyson Slim Cordless vacuum brush bar has both stiff nylon bristles and anti-static carbon fiber filaments. On hard floors the carbon fiber filaments remove fine dust, and on carpets the nylon bristles remove ground-in dirt; it also has double the power and increased run time.
So try out this weekly cleaning routine and power it up with a good vacuum machine and ensure your haven remains dust free.

Well this for sure really does work !!

17 Counterintuitive Things the Most Successful People Do

intutiveYou’re always going to get the same results, doing what everyone else does. Sometimes you have to know when to zig where others zag. These are some of the counterintuitive lessons I’ve learned and applied from the most successful folks I’ve met.

Pick Fights – to test others’ resolve in their own beliefs. In business you can’t turn over the reins to someone who doesn’t know how to defend their own ideas and plans.

Isolate Yourself – to reenergize. Many seemingly extroverts are introverts. If you recharge when by yourself, you need to seek out isolation from time to time.

Purposefully Offend – sometimes the only way to get someone’s attention is to call him or her out. But, you can always positively turn the relationship around with persistence and some mea culpa. Tech entrepreneur Jason Calacanis is a master of this.

Hyper Self-Critical – of your own standards and choices. I once watched George Carlin berate himself on stage, in a rehearsal standup performance, for missing the timing of one of his jokes by a few seconds. He nailed the follow-up HBO special.

Peacock – don’t give others the option not to see you or hear your message. The pick-up lesson from “The Game” applies to business as well. Nobody buys a product they’ve never seen.

Repeat Mistakes – enough times until you really learn the lesson. Sometimes, mistakes do need to be repeated if the payoff is big enough. We hardly ever learn anything truly worthwhile after one try.

Seek Out Rejection – to get desensitized to the fear of it. Once we lose the fear of rejection we more easily go after what we want, and thus get more of it. (TIP: more details in the 5 Steps Sales Process)

Ignore Consensus – when your own data and foresight is convincingly contrary to the wisdom of the crowd (like Jobs, MLK, Gandhi). Consensus bonds us together and creates harmony, but it rarely moves us forward. Progress sometimes has to come at the hands of an individual’s decisive disruption.

Expect Nothing – in return for helping your peers. Karma points are dispersed unexpectedly over decades, not in a scorecard of dollars.

Quit – those endeavors you’ll never win at, and take a new swing at the plate. Don’t double down on a losing effort by not knowing when to walk away.

Play Possum – with your competitors. Don’t be so eager to show off your strengths until it’s the perfect time to strike. If rope-a-dope worked for The Champ, it will for you too.

Get C’s instead of A’s – if you excel in non-traditional environments (like entrepreneurs) & can justify the opportunity cost of your time. Oddly enough, more of the C students I went to school with, employ our A student classmates, than vice versa.

Become Indifferent to Slights – because time and energy are too valuable to waste on petty matters. Attention being paid to wounds of our ego is precious energy diverted from achieving our goals. You can win the argument, or win the game. I know what I’d choose.

Self-Sabotage – yourself when you find yourself mired in complacency. Don’t ever get too comfortable with the status quo, always be willing to blow it up and start all over again to truly create something better.

Abstain from Work – which others can do for you. Delegate every task that others can do 80% as well as you, and focus on those items that only you can achieve that have big payoffs.

Plot & Scheme – your next couple moves ahead. If you don’t see the whole landscape of the playing field, you’re bound to get sideswiped. Know where you’re going far in advance of making your first move.

Underestimate Demand – for your products and services. Don’t ever assume people want what you got, and you’ll always have the appropriate amount of urgency and hustle to validate what you’re trying to achieve.

10 Things Successful Business People Aren’t Daunted By

The most successful business people I’ve known have had an attitude about them. They’re not easily discouraged by obstacles and issues that might deter others. In fact, they don’t see them as “obstacles and issues,” but problems to solve and situations to work through. In a word, they’re not easily daunted…

They’re not daunted by failure – Fear failure too much and you’ll have a hard time getting past breakfast.

They’re not daunted by rising before the sun does – Show me a successful lazy entrepreneur and I’ll show you a purple horse.

They’re not daunted by risk – Too much risk is seldom good – but nothing really innovatively great was ever accomplished without some degree of risk, often quite a bit.

They’re not daunted by responsibility – No choice but to take it, if you want the rewards that go with it.

They’re not daunted by conflict – Conflict is the currency of leadership – you have to be able to handle it effectively or others won’t want to follow.

They’re not daunted by what you can’t see with the naked eye – Vision in business means looking past the horizon to opportunity invisible to most.

They’re not daunted by bare forearms – As in the kind that go with rolled-up sleeves.

They’re not daunted by admitting fault– Too much hubris and you’ll have trouble working with others, which of course you need to in order to accomplish what you want to.

They’re not daunted by the unknown – That pretty much goes without saying.

The quality of being daunted, or not, has been on my mind, as I just read a wonderful book titled Nothing Daunted: The Unexpected Education of Two Society Girls in the West, by Dorothy Wickenden. It’s the story of two Smith College grads who left the East to teach school in a remote settlement called Elkhead, in northwestern Colorado, in 1916. The book especially interested me, as my wife and I moved last year from the East to a spot near Elkhead.

In a phrase, those two young women had pioneer spirit. It was a good thing then and it is now. In new enterprises of all kinds.

Top 10 things you did not know about Louis Vuitton

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

It’s at the tender age of 16 that Louis Vuitton after having realized the potential for trunk-making, decided on pursuing the profession. Little did the lad know that the business was predestined to flourish and grow into one of the biggest, widely known and leading fashion houses in the world. A company founded in 1854 by Louis Vuitton first kicked off in Paris with its trunk-making, and since then, the French fashion connoisseur has diversified into varied ranges of luxury goods – trunks, leather goods, ready-to-wears like shoes, watches and watch cases, jewelry, accessories, sunglasses, books, a writing collection and even garbage bags – for the crazy Louis Vuitton buffs!

Yes, you’d surely come across fashion fads swear by the brand, and aspire to own at least one Louis Vuitton. But on the flip side, you’d only find a handful who’d have extended knowledge about the brand – its beginnings, whereabouts and interesting facts. Now, there’s no reason for you to feel low coz’ you don’t fall under the category of the ‘know-it-all’s’. Here’s brightening up your mood with a few must-know LV facts!

10) Do you know that Louis Vuitton was hired as a personal box-maker and packer for Napoleon’s (Emperor of the French in 1852) wife?! This is how Louis found himself the elite clientele. His ticket to create history in the world of fashion and lifestyle!
9) Crafted with much precision and passion, the brand is very touchy about its designs, so much so it trademarked the striped pattern, even making the color combinations its signature. Nonetheless, the brand’s increasing popularity only heightened counterfeits. That’s when Louis Vuitton’s son came up with the idea of the famous Louise Vuitton Monogram – three floral motifs and the founder’s initials interlaced, the LV signature we are quite acquainted with.
8) We have been all praise for Louis Vuitton. But did you know that the “World’s Most Valuable Brand” has to its credit not only uphill treads, but also a few slip off’s. One of them being the ‘Chewy Vuitton‘ case for which Louis Vuitton sued the dog toy owner Hate Diggity-Dog for trademark infringement. Naturally, the case ruled ‘not-in-favor’ of Louis Vuitton as the brand’s patented signature could no way be “infringed” by a satirical marketing gimmick, and more so, one that involves a pet chew toy and bed!
7) As compared to its most luxurious, Louis Vuitton’s largest luxurious boutique stands tall at 101 avenue des Champs-Elysées, Paris. Spread over 1,800sq.mt, the brand initially had a store at the same venue, but shut it down for renovation for around 2 years, revamping and reopening doors to Louis Vuitton’s impartial collection for both men and women.
6) Believe it or not, but it seems like there are no borders to the Louis Vuitton attractiveness. The highly acclaimed brand has a total of five boutiques in Nevada, all in the same city and on the same street! Cheers to that!
5) Did you know that Louis Vuitton gives away bags to the press before its collection hits the runway? Well, the SS’05 Lizard Cerises Pochette, FW ’07 Squitchy Bag, and the SS ’07 TDF cabas with a Speedy incrust, among others, were the giveaways that found ownership with the press. If not the runways, its Christmas that the press look forward to. Here, not out of reverence for the occasion, rather towards LV’s Christmas goodies! Sources reveal: 2005 saw LV’s Petit Noe Epi Mocha with gunmetal hardware convey seasonal greetings, while in 2006 it was the Miroir Silver Speedy, which only a few got lucky with. Now, how does the prospect of being a journalist make you feel? Appealing?
4) One of the most prized possessions of LV – Speedy launched in 1930, was originally introduced as a travel case christened – Express. But it’s a humble phone call request from US’s iconic film and fashion figure – Audrey Hepburn (in 1960′s) that got the collection its glory. Audrey requested Louis to custom-make a mini-Speedy for her, thus revolutionizing the collection and making it an age-no-bar popularity. The collection is available in different versions varying in sizes. You can own a classic Speedy for just $2,650USD.
3) Another of the most popular bags Louis Vuitton has produced – the Alma has been one of the most sought after. Dazzling its clientele with its chic, stylish and sophisticated look and feel, the Alma found its way to the wardrobes of many celebs. So much so, that it was the only bag Chanel ever carried other than one of her own creations!
2) If you own an LV, know that what you carry is not only an exquisitely stylish fashion statement, but a rough and tough merchandise that has endured enough and more testing to ensure its durability and user-friendliness. All Louis Vuitton bags and jewelry undergo vigorous tests: the bags are tested by mechanisms that drops them from about half a meter height consecutively for a duration of four days, and while doing so, the bags have been packed with three and a half kilograms weight! This is not all, the test of endurance doesn’t end here. The material undergoes bombardment of ultraviolent rays to ensure resistance to fading. Also, the zippers are tugged open and shut around 5,000 times to ensure they work well while in the hands of a customer. Here we spoke about bags, want to know the story behind those delicate Louis Vuitton charm bracelets you wear around your wrists? The charms are dangled on mechanized mannequin hands that are shaken vigorously to make sure none of it dismantle or fall off. For all the times you’ve been careful not to lose even one of those danglers by the slightest of a handshake, little would you have dreamt of the ordeal these delicate darlings go thorugh. I’m just gona leave to imagination what these babies would have endured.
1) Now don’t panic when you read this. Be forewarned. What if I tell you that after every season – the sale, items being offered to SAs and employees of the company, all Louis Vuitton shoes and bags are sent back to its factory in France and are shredded or burnt(!), would you believe me? Yes, it’s true! What a waste of – ‘handcrafted’, ‘exquisitely stylish’, and the ‘world’s most valuable’!!!
